My First Hibachi Experience

Happy Tuesday, Belles & Beaux!

I had my first encounter with hibachi last night. Now, I’ve recently given Asian food (to cover all the normal types covered under this banner) another go and have actually found some things that I like.

So I spent last night with some of my alumnae fraternity sisters at Toyama Japanese Steak House over near my apartment. I’m really trying to try a lot of new things this year so this was the perfect opportunity to give something new. Despite still being exhausted from Sunday night’s celebration of St. Paddy’s day with another sister, I went and had a lot of fun getting caught up with some sisters I don’t see on a regular basis.

For the most party, I enjoyed the show of cooking the food. No one got their eyebrows singed off for those who might be reading this after seeing the videos on Instagram last night. But I’m not a big fan of being that close to any kind of open flame – so hibachi is definitely out for me unless I happen to be at one that has a somewhat bigger counter space and puts me a little further away from the flames.

I thoroughly enjoyed what I ordered which was their Sukiyaki Steak Dinner. Their teriyaki sauce that they used was sweet which is the opposite of what I have been having with my steak when I order it. But even with the sweetness, I really liked it.

Now, the biggest thing that I didn’t like was egg in my fried rice. I like eggs done two ways, scrambled or fried – not sunny side up but with my yolk broken and cooked thoroughly. But other than that, the rice was delicious. I even really liked their Miso soup, and I usually never really particularly care for it!

So would I go again? Probably.

Would I maybe want to try another hibachi place? Quite possibly.

Have you ever tried hibachi? What was your experience? Let me know in the comments!

XOXO,

Trula Marie

    1. It’s a cool experience! But I definitely would have preferred a counter that wasn’t as tiny and put us super close to the cooking area.
