The First Day of Blogmas

Happy December, Belles & Beaus!

I make no promises to keep this up, but I’m definitely going to attempt.

So I thought the perfect first post would be about decorating my Christmas tree. More specifically what order I decorate my tree in. I mean, I know it’s fundamentally the same to some degree. You obviously have to put the lights on and such, but I do have a pretty distinct order and way that I put mine on.

The photo to your right is my tree from last year before I ever put the ornaments on it. And yes, that is a black christmas tree. I know I’m weird.

But generally because of this I use a set of single colored lights and then a set of white lights. And I don’t mean just a box or anything like that. I add plenty of red lights closer to the inside of the tree. To me, it just looks better. Generally there’s nearly 300-400 red lights on it before I begin putting my white lights on it. After I’m satisfied with the amount of red lights, I’ll go around the outside and add the white lights until I’m satisfied that the tree twinkles and there aren’t any dark patches. Typically this small tree (6.5 ft.) has about nearly 800-900 lights on it for me to be satisfied. Mom’s big tree that we used to put up took much more to light it and we hate holes on our trees.

Second, The Topper

Now you can barely see it in the picture because I was focusing on Ellavorn, our family elf on the shelf, but the top of my tree has two massive loopy bows on top of it with four tails on each side of the tree. My aunt made these for me because I didn’t much care for traditional toppers on my tree. I’m still trying to figure out how to do lights in it because the last thing I need is them to possibly catch the bow on fire by accident. But the topper is just that and they’re made out of a wired houndstooth ribbon so that they can be bent and styled how I want them on the tree. I just love the idea of a bow instead of other things… Plus I really love my houndstooth!

Finally, Ornaments

Yep, the last thing I do when decorating my tree – I don’t count the tree skirt – is put all the decorations I want on it. I picked up some red & white shatterproof balls at Hobby Lobby this past week and added some of them on as well as our normal ornaments. To be honest, my tree typically is a mix of Disney’s Princess Aurora, cat ornaments, and a few other choice ornaments. I don’t like to do an exact theme. We actually have tons of ornaments in our storage building but my little tree isn’t as big as mom’s so they all won’t fit. But one day, I will have my nice big tree and they will!

So that’s it for the first day of Blogmas! What is your favorite way to decorate for the holidays?

XOXO,

Trula Marie

  1. Our tree is currently pre-lit which is amazing! No lights to struggle with. Then it’s ornaments and then the topper. But when we had un-lit trees or a real tree, it was lights, then ornaments, then topper 😉

    1. This tree originally came pre-lit and I didn’t mind until it became impossible to figure out which light was causing them to all go out and such so I de-lighted the tree. I much prefer putting them on myself because I feel like it does a better spread. But everyone is different!

      1. Oh wow! Our trees never had the “one is out, all of them are out” deal. Our strings of lights did which was annoying haha but you are right, I like the strings of light for a more overall cohesive look.
