My Workout Playlist

Working out sucks. Okay, yes there are those that enjoy it, but for those of us who don’t, it sucks. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good hike with friends or a canoeing trip on occasion, but that never feels like a workout. That’s because I’m spending time with friends and having fun.

One thing I have found to help me get through those solo workouts is to have a playlist that makes me feel like a BAMF that I am – even if I don’t feel like I look it 90 percent of the time. Everyone has that one song that makes them feel amazing, and like I said before, I have a playlist loaded down with songs that do just that.

For me, the beat has to be an upbeat tempo as well as good lyrics. And if the lyrics don’t make me feel good, then the songs gets chunked right off the list. To me, a workout playlist has to make you want to get up and move as well as keep you motivated while you’re working out.

Now not all songs on my playlist are absolute feel good songs. Some are just meant to give me the ability to sing along and take my mind off the workout I’m doing at the moment. “Beware the Dog” has saved me many a time when I’ve been in the middle of a 30 second plank. Singing along forces me to even my breathing and keep my mind away from the shaking in my arms. Laugh all you want, but I have absolutely no upper body strength for those things.

Working out doesn’t always have to be fun, but with a killer playlist it can be much less painful and much more enjoyable. Plus, if you’re anything like me, it’ll put an extra pep in your step.

What are some of your go to songs? Or do you have a streamable playlist that is your go to to get you going for you workouts?
