Worth it?

Hello, lovely,

If you follow me on Instagram, then you may be aware of the newest hairstyling tool that has joined my arsenal.

If you don’t, then why aren’t you?

I’m just kidding. In truth, this is a tool that I keep debating for months even with the looming timing of my trip to see my friend in Arizona in October. I kept debating was it worth it? Would I really be able to make use of it on my trip to the extensiveness that it would make the $300 USD price tag worth it?

Well, I’m here to answer all those questions today. So let’s get into it.

What did I get in my Bundle?

For complete transparency, I purchased this sucker for full price and I did so through the Shark website. I ended up going for the build your own bundle where you get to pick three attachments to go with your flex styler. I ended up choosing the nozzle, the curlers, and the round brush attachments.

The Styler

The body of the styler itself is pretty simple. There’s the power button that slides up to turn it on. Then there are three other buttons. Closest to the power slide is the heat settings which you can go through no heat then up three levels. Above that is the speed control on how fast the air is being pushed through. Finally is the cool shot button to use when using the curling or brush attachments.  On the opposite side of these buttons is the lever to use to turn the styler’s body into a blow dryer shaped body.

Nozzle Attachment

Obviously with a nozzle attachment, you can tell why I got it. The Shark Flex Styler is very similar to the Dyson with one main difference: the body of the styler actually moves into a blow dryer like form. If I am already using it to style my hair with other attachments, then I might as well use it to blow dry my hair.

Curler Attachments (1.25 inches)

This is probably my millionth curler item that I have purchased in an effort to try to help my hair maintain as much curl as possible. We struggle bus over here in the curl world after I have been processing my hair since the seventh grade so we are going to use every tool that might give me an advantage.

While Shark recommends having your hair about 80-90 percent dry, I do usually do mine at about 75 percent because my hair is stubborn and if we do the whole it’s still mostly wet then I can manage to actually have curl that lasts a while with the help of my Overnight Blowout rollers (which we will cover in another review down the road).

Round Brush Attachment

Now, I probably could have gotten the smaller curler attachments instead of this because I haven’t used it yet. Honestly should I start for blowouts? Yes. Have? No.

The round brush attachment is one that I got because I honestly don’t like the smaller curlers because I don’t do smaller curls right now. We’re going to Farrah Fawcett meets Nicole Kidman here.

My Thoughts

I want you to keep in mind, I have never used the Dyson Airwrap and most likely never will. For something that is supposed to be a blow dryer, I do not like that it doesn’t move into a blow dryer like form. That being said here are my thoughts.

I absolute love my flex styler for the curling attachments. My hair has maintained curl so much better when I use the curlers in conjunction with my Overnight Blowout rollers so that I have good looking hair the whole week. However, for this alone it would not be worth the $300 USD price tag.

Thankfully the blow dryer use has seen a lot of action as well and between both the curlers and that, it has definitely redeemed itself in the price category. The drying process has been shortened even more than when I was using my BaByliss Pro blow dryer that I’ve had for years. There are three fan settings and four heat settings plus the cool shot button which makes for easy blow drying options for anyone.

I fully plan on giving the round brush a go soon to see to if it falls in the category of worth it and will report back on that once I have.

In conclusion, do I think the Shark Flex is really worth the price tag for just the “bells and whistles”? Not really.

Do I think it was worth the price tag to tone down on how much stuff I have to travel with for long distance travel plans? Yes, I do. It takes up minimal space compared to the blow dryer and curling iron I would have to take with me on trips when my suitcase space is finite.

I can’t say that I would try to influence anyone into purchasing it, but it was definitely worth it for me at least when it comes to travel.

My love,

Trula Marie
