My Lingerie Cleaning Routine

As you may know if you follow me on Instagram or have been around since I announced my affiliate code with Hey, Mavens!, then you know I have a bit of an extensive lingerie collection. With the amount of money I have invested my collection, I fully plan on getting as much wear of them as I can which has led me to working on perfecting a cleaning routine that keeps me from having to put these in the washer.

Sink Washing

Yes, you read that right. Sink Washing.

This might throw some people off, but I have found that filling my kitchen sink up with cold water and letting the pieces soak there with detergent included in the mix that I don’t need to really do much. I do agitate it just a tiny bit but nothing to crazy. It’s more like I massage the fabric more than anything.

You could also wash them individually with a washboard bowl but honestly, I have found that the longer I leave my hands in the water the more my skin gets irritated by the cleaning process. I also use this same method to wash my wraps that I wear on a regular basis.

Personally, I use the plant based detergent from Buff City Soap that I have been using for nearly a year. My favorite scent is Magnolia – shocker – and I have been using it for nearly a year now.

To rinse, you simply turn on the cold water on the other side of the sink and begin to rinse each individual piece and gently wring them out. I, again personally, turn on a little warm water to keep my hands from feeling too cold while I do the rinsing.

Hang Drying

Now stay with me, I know there is a huge temptation to just throw our lingerie in the dryer. We don’t want to have to wait for it to hang dry. But when I tell you that this is worth the time, I do mean it. There are a lot of my clothing that I choose not to put through the dryer. I’ve even started washing all of my clothing separate from my denim so that they don’t create holes in my clothing.

But seriously, hang dry that stuff. I keep a set of velvet hangers in my bathroom and hang them over my tub so they can drip dry. It usually only takes them around twenty-four (24) hours to dry, sometimes less. It really depends on the type of the fabric that the clothing is made off. My velvets do take a little longer than the jersey and cotton fabrics do, but that is just because they tend to hold on to the water.

Proper Storage When Traveling

This is another huge thing that you have to take into account. I keep my bags from Hey, Mavens! and use them when I travel to keep my sets together. Otherwise they’ll just end up everywhere in my suitcase. I also won’t be able to find anything because of what a space head I can be at times. I don’t like packing suitcases. It also doesn’t help that I just suck at packing. But I’m learning. Which is why I pack my lingerie in a bag where it is protected as much as I possibly can.
