The Musical You Need to Try to See

Hey, lovely soul,

I’m a little late today on getting a blog post up and I’m sorry about that.

But the weekend was pretty crazy and I’m trying to get everything ready this week for a third weekend of company.

This past weekend though was a huge deal. One of my amazing TikTok friends came to town with one purpose: Hadestown

Yes, she also came to hang out with me and for us to actually meet in person but this visit has been a year in the working and manifesting. We weren’t sure if Nashville was going to get the Hadestown National Tour because sometimes life be like that, but when I found out that it was we started planning almost immediately.

The Andrew Jackson Theater Stage at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) dressed up for Hadestown the Musical

I didn’t get our tickets when they first released cause I didn’t get the notice they were dropping. However, I got super lucky and purchased our tickets second hand. We ended up six rows away from the stage and it was the most glorious night at the theater. That’s coming from the woman who has seen both Cats and Phantom of the Opera on stage.

If you’re not familiar, Hadestown takes the story of Orpheus and Eurydice and puts a new spin on it. Incorporating the railroad boom, mobsters making back alley deals with people to “help” them survive, and sprinkling in the love story of Hades & Persephone, this musical has just a little bit of everything for everyone.

The national tour cast we were blessed with was absolutely amazing. Our Hermes was absolutely marvelous and reminded me of André De Shields who until the last few months has portrayed him on Broadway and is the voice on the original Broadway cast recording.

In truth, the TikToks that have been dancing around the internet of this show and the soundtrack do not do the show enough justice. I laughed, cried, and fell in love with the best greek couple there is. Like seriously, it reminds me why I respect him and Persephone so much in my practice as a witch.

I would love to go see the show again if I have the chance to. Next musical on the list at this point is Six The Musical so I’ll be back in February I’m sure to gush about it.

Light & Love,

Trula Marie
