A Book Review
Hello, lovely soul,
The year of 2022 has been a busy year in reading for me. I haven’t done that many book reviews mainly because I hadn’t found a book that really felt like it needed to be shared. That’s why you’ve only had a few pop up on the blog since the relaunch.
But you are here because you either follow me on Instagram, follow the blog, or you searched “Missing Witches” in your favorite search engine and it brought this blog post up as a link.
Either way, welcome.
I finished reading Missing Witches at the tail end of August after starting it nearly three-ish months prior. This book moves based on the Wheel of the Year. Starting with Yule and ending with Samhain – the Witch’s New Year.
Like the podcast that originated this book, each chapter tells the life story of a spiritual soul that was lost to us over the years. You’d be surprised based on the podcast just how many females have been lost the present day practices just because they were eclipsed by men who used their accomplishments as their own.
One for example is Pamela Coleman Smith aka Pixie. She was the artist behind the generic Rider-Waite deck which upon the centennial printing was properly corrected to be titled the Smith-Waite deck. It’s the only version I’ll actually buy of that deck for anyone I know who might be getting into tarot because Pixie totally deserves us to honor her properly after all these years of being hidden.
The book not only acknowledges the missing witches through its chapters, but also provides you with little rituals at the end for each sabbat. In truth, I’d probably have enjoyed this more if I had started it during Yule where it begins and then read each chapter for each sabbat as they came up, but sometimes I just can’t help but devour a book.
I most likely will make another trip through it slowly starting this December and ending in October 2023. Most likely, I might do it as a chapter by chapter breakdown.
But I highly recommend it to add to your reading list if you are searching for a book to connect you even more to the history of witches in your practice.
Light & Love,
Trula Marie
