The World Keeps Spinning
Hello, lovely soul,
Earlier this week, I posted about Katherine’s Petlibro Automatic Feeder with a note about some recent health changes we’ve run into. As I like to be transparent, I thought maybe having this post today would be a good idea.
Also, there may be edits to this post the day of if I have heard back from her vet, so please just hold on with me on this ride.
Now for the information dump.
Katherine sees Dr. Jennica McGuire at the Maryland Farms Banfield and has been seeing her for the last year or so. Last year, she went in for a check-up in May and then a dental cleaning in November. I set up her bi-annual visit for May 21 for this year back in March I believe with nothing screaming at me to be concerned about. Katherine has always been a lounging cat so it didn’t worry me that she was always snuggled up somewhere.
Fast-forward to going to pick her up from her vet visit on Saturday. Dr. McGuire gave me some news that I wasn’t fully expecting.
Yes, she’s still a chunk and we’ve switched her food again to hopefully combat that. I’ve gotten her some cat trees to help with that as well and we’re playing a lot more when I can get her to play. We’re also going out on walks when it’s pretty so she can – as we refer to it – “touch grass”. As of 5/24, doc has confirmed that she needs to be on a half cup of food daily so she’s getting a 1/4 a cup in the morning and a 1/4 a cup in the evening.
She still has some teeth that are troublesome and will need to come out. That again is no big deal.
The big issue was the heart murmur that Dr. McGuire discovered during her most recent visit. Now, there are numerous reasons as to why this heart murmur has been found after her last two visits this past year.
It could be related to stress or her weight. These are the two I’m hoping for, as these are easy to combat. If it’s more? Well, let’s break it down.
Right now, Dr. McGuire has sent off a blood sample for to test the stretch of Katherine’s heart. If it’s normal, then we’re going to do a basic echo on her heart to see what’s going on to look into the murmur.
If her test results come back out of normal range, then we’re going to have to head to aggressive tactics. Her echo will have to be a full workup and it’s gonna cost a bit. But as my mom so perfectly put it “we’ll do anything for our kids”. And Katherine is pretty much just that for me. She is my kid. It’s why I will do anything for her. So we’ll take it as it goes.
Update 5/25: I got the call from Doc today and good news! Katherine’s blood test came back normal! We’re working on getting the basic echo scheduled for June and I will keep you all posted on how that goes.
Meanwhile, we’re planning to go visit Grandma for the first weekend in June. I’m also going to see my old hairstylist because your girl needs to get rid of this yellow in her hair.
Light & Love,
Trula Marie
