Jackson Galaxy Approved Kitty Litter
But is it Katherine approved?
Happy Friday Lovelies!
I try to do my research into the products I use with Katherine as much as possible. While trying to stick to a budget a much as possible as I am a single person taking care of a picky kitty, I still want to do what is best for her. Eventually we’re going to try out Pretty Litter but right now I wanted to see if this type of litter was going to be good for her.
My selling points were really easy: it’s sustainable, odor controlling, and it also is flushable(?). Okay the last part was questionable to me. But I wanted to give this a chance because why not! I also wanted to give this a try because I really couldn’t find any in-depth reviews for this online outside of what is on the pet shopping websites. So without further ado, let’s get into the litter review.
Scatter
- 1 out of 5 Stars
This was not my favorite part of this litter. The amount of scatter this has is huge. It’s not a complete turn off as I usually vacuum around Katherine’s box at least twice a week if not more depending on how much I’m feeling under my feet. But it does scatter extremely easily and will track with Katherine’s feet out of the bathroom if there’s not more mats to catch it.
But where Katherine is concerned, this does not seem to stick to her paws as much as her clay litter had a tendency to do if she has recently been playing in her water bowl – she’s not a fan of stagnant water. I haven’t noticed any of it in her water bowl after she’s been to the box and come back to play in her water bowl. Yes, I know she’s weird.
Clumping/Sticking
- 5 out of 5 Stars
I absolutely love this litter for how well it clumps and does not stick to the litter container when she urinates. I’m not kidding. Like this stuff is amazing. I’m always having to dig with her regular clay litter to get it scraped off the sides creating smaller pieces, but with this there is no need! It stays pretty well clumped together
I don’t think Katherine has much complaints about this in general, but I think she seems to like this as well because there’s not as much left behind now as there usually is with the regular clay litter we use.
Odor
- 2.5 out of 5 Stars
Another part of this litter that I wasn’t a huge fan off. Urine is fine as far as smell goes, however with the regular Sustainably Yours multi-cat litter, it doesn’t do much for odor control with fecal matter. Not that Katherine’s smells that bad, but when it does this stuff does not really cover the smell. For a litter that is for a multi-cat household and only having one cat, I feel like it should better cover the smells. However, it just doesn’t.
If Katherine could complain about this part, I think she would. She’s very OCD – wonder where she gets it – when it comes to covering things in her litter box. With her fecal matter, it tends to not cover the smell and she will sometimes go back to try and cover it up more because she smells it outside the litter box. Usually she has never done this and this is the first time I’ve witnessed her doing it.
This is true for both the pink and purple bag – one is just supposed to be better at odor control. The purple bag is the “better” at odor control and it does to some degree, but just not enough. But I could always spring some baking soda in with it if need be.
Flushability
- 5 out of 5 stars
Out of all the litters I have tried for her, this has got to be the best one. Originally I had mixed this in with her old litter so I wasn’t able to start flushing it until recently. It is an amazing things and I am in love with this. Used to I was recycling my plastic grocery bags that didn’t have holes in them to collect her excrement in. Now that her clay litter is finally out it can now be flushed down in the toilet and it has been a lifesaver in my daily routine when trying to get out the door for work.
In Conclusion
To wrap this all up, the average of my ratings comes out to a 3.4 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend this litter, though I might recommend splurging for the larger bags. I would but it’s not in store in the Petco near my apartment and the only store – one that I will be reviewing later on – that does is on the other side of town in an area that gets heavy traffic. And I personally hate paying for shipping. So until I either move closer to there or Petco starts carrying the larger bags in store, I’ll stick to the smaller size I’m buying right now.
Light & Love,
Trula Marie
