The Show

Happy Friday, Belles & Beaux! And welcome back to our regularly scheduled programming.

The first TV Show review of 2020 and it’s about a show that originally premiered in 2018 and I was late to the game for. I blame the fact that A) I was super busy throughout 2018 and didn’t have much time to actually sit and watch television and B) finding time to actually doing things that I enjoy? What is that?

So my very much lateness to A Discovery of Witches has now led to a near Twi-Hard – I was one. I remember how obsessive I got over it, too, before seeing the light – obsessiveness over the books and show. If you follow me on Goodreads, then you know that I completed all three books within a two week period. I still say they’re a much better love story than The Twilight Saga.

But Trula, it’s vampires like Twilight.

And that is where you are wrong.

The All Souls world that Deborah Harkness has created a world of humans, vampires, daemons, and witches. Vampires in this world at just like humans but are extremely harder to kill. This world is far more in depth than Twilight ever was but I do hate that werewolves aren’t included. I kind of like them so it was a slight disappointment in general for both the books and show.

However, the show is pretty much amazing despite how fast pace it moved. By episode three, Matthew is whisking Diana away to the de Clermont family home of Sept-Tours. But as far as getting the essence of the book, the fast pace is needed to keep up with their relationship that pretty much starts and gets heavy within a couple months if even that.

But in truth, the way Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode play these two characters is down right mind blowing. I honestly feel that season two can’t be any better but according to the casting and the few stills we’ve seen of behind the scenes, season two is going to be even more amazing!

Everything the production team has done has been pretty spot on – especially considering they had to completely recreate the Bodleian Library on a set because they couldn’t really take a lot of pictures of the actually source material nor could they film in the original location. It’s the little pieces with the attention to detail like that that really bring a show together for me. And even though they’ve cut a lot of things that aren’t all that important overall for the show, they’ve found ways – much like Outlander has – to include the information that might have been given in those parts of the book in the show at other points if it is vital to the plot.

Now of course, I can say that as far as season one goes of the show, it vary much varies from the books. Enough to establish that the endgame of the series might be a little different than the books, but it’s going to most likely end with happily ever after that the books do. Or so I hope.

If you’re a fan of the supernatural shows and need something new to try, then I highly recommend.

Happy binging!

XOXO,

Trula Marie
