I Proclaim the Start of Spooky Season

Welcome to the theater, Belles & Beaux,

It is finally Friday and I’m so excited because I headed home at noon today to start an early weekend with my mother. Everything is fine, I promise. We’re just going to do some fun things tonight that require me to head home so I can be there in time.

But we’re not here to talk about that. We’re here to talk about Ready or Not with the Margot Robbie twin! My friends and I have been taking advantage of going to the movies on Tuesday nights with AMC because they’re only $5 USD, $7.50 USD with taxes. So I love it because then I can spend a chunk on my snacks which is usually either nachos or popcorn with a coke.

Well, we went a couple weeks ago after the movie released and enjoyed the dine in theater with the nice comfy chairs. We’ve previously seen The Kitchen in the same setting so it was planned to be able to relax like that again.

But I’m digressing from the actual fun that was had watching what we thought was going to be a horror movie and ended up being Scary Movie meets Friday the 13th. Oh, it was scary enough, but there was actually a plot line behind it. Talk about a shocker for a horror movie. I feel like most are just variations of older movies with the same story: serial killer killed, magically they’re resurrected, then they go on a killing spree. Catch my drift?

Image result for ready or notNo, this one was decently worth watching. The story opens on the lead female’s wedding day to her boyfriend of a year and half. The family isn’t all that welcoming because they think she’s just marrying him for the family riches. Now, the family has made their money on creating board games. And every time someone marries into the family they play a game at midnight. What the new family member doesn’t know is that she’s about to get much more than what she expected.

After pulling the formerly blank playing card, it reads hide and seek which has only happened one other time that the family is aware of. It is then that she is told to go hide until dawn. She doesn’t know the truth behind what is about to happen and ends up not taking it seriously until her new husband sneaks upstairs with her to get her out of the house.

By the end of it she learns the truth and manages to come out on top. Think I just ruined the story for you? I didn’t. Now the comedy part comes in with the different characters they have created for this world. There’s the drunk older brother, the cocaine-ed out sister, the weird aunt who constantly has resting witch face, and the mother who you would swear is an alcoholic but surprisingly isn’t.

There are plenty of attempts at jump scares and a few parts that I will say my friend and I definitely covered our eyes for, but I would definitely go see this in theaters again. I also cannot wait to add it to my collection. There were a couple actors I recognized in the movie and they’re a few of my favorites from other things so it made watching this much more interesting.

What movie are you looking forward to this spooky season?

XOXO,

Trula Marie
