Rock On Gold Dust Woman

Happy Thursday, Belles & Beaux!

finally finished Stevie Nicks’ biography and I cannot say enough words about this book. I have always loved Stevie because of her music and how she so artfully tells a story with her words. There are a few flaws in the books such as dates and probably not as much research behind Stevie as there could have been, but I learned a great deal about the White Witch as she is so enduringly called that I didn’t know before I read it.

The cover shows Stevie as most fans know her, young and dawning her top hat. Davis goes on to paint a portrait of Stevie’s early years and who originally got her started in music: her grandfather. Her music has always been written on the basis of life experience.

The way she writs about her experiences takes my breath away in truth. From the lyrics of “Silver Springs” which she gave her mother the rights to, a song written about her breakup with longtime boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham, to the lyrics of her song “New Orleans” that was a tribute to the city after Hurricane Katrina.

Stevie has a well full of words that I don’t think even I could ever put together to equal even half of what she puts into her songs. Even while writing this and listening to her music as I did, it’s still hard to find the words that describe this White Witch best. Even the book does not completely do her justice. But then again, maybe one day she will sit down and write her autobiography and tell us all from her perspective.

To be honest, none of the information presented was sugar coated. It was brutal and honest feeling as I stumbled over the words within the book. Again, Stevie is the wordsmith here, y’all. But deep down I think I’ll always find some type of soulmate experience with this woman because sometimes only her songs can reach me in a bad depressive state.

This book walks through all of her relationships – including her time with Don Henley who has stayed a close friend over the years. I adore this relationship the most just because I love Don as a singer as well and I can only imagine how beautiful a couple they were.

In truth, this book covers many of her relationships and not just the romantic ones. It also speaks of her inspirations for multiple songs such as Rhiannon, Silver Springs, Sisters of the Moon, and Edge of Seventeen. So if you love Stevie or are just a casual fan, do yourself a favor and check this one out!

    1. It took me a while for this one to be honest but mostly because I was stressing over other things. I started this back in December. Lol
