My Second Non-Disney Princess

Happy Friday Eve, Belles & Beaus!

Today feels pretty chill considering the Predators are playing game seven tonight for the possibility of advancing to the next round of the playoffs. So I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take a walk down memory lane. I’m taking a page from College Prepster and writing about my favorite childhood movie.

I’m sure most of you thought this would be Star Wars related because I go on about my obsession with my favorite Princess, Leia Organa, but pretty much I would choose Anastasia over her most days.

I’ve seen this musical in theaters when it was released and on ice as well when I was a child. Now the Broadway musical is coming to TPAC next spring and I absolutely cannot wait to hear “In A Crows of Thousands” for myself live and in person. They kept a good deal of the original songs from the film, but they’ve added more.

Why is it my favorite movie from childhood?

As a child – and an adult -, I loved musicals. First of all, the story of Anastasia at the time hadn’t been officially closed by DNA testing at the time – if I remember correctly. So it was a beautiful story of her finding herself, her family, and then falling in love with the person who saved her all those years ago.

Liz Callaway was amazing as Anya/Anastasia’s singing voice – even if Meg Ryan tried to take credit for it. Sorry, hun, those of us who know Liz’s voice won’t let that stand. But the musical itself just kept you interested because the songs came in just at the right time. Seriously it had the best soundtrack in comparison to the Disney ones from back in the day.

I’d take this over any other movie musical any day. It’s my favorite and there’s no telling how many times I’ve watched my VHS tape of this. I probably really need to invest on getting it on DVD considering how old it is. But it’s always been my favorite. Essentially she saves herself from the curse so it’s very much uncommon for it’s time, falling alongside Star Wars with the female not needing to be rescued all the time.

To be honest, I could probably go into more details but that would ruin all the fun! Meaning, find yourself a copy and go watch it. You won’t regret it.

What was your favorite movie as a child?

XOXO,

Trula Marie

  1. I love this movie!! OMG!! I was obsessed with Rasputin for a while when I was younger. I was asked on a history test “who is Rasputin” and I said “Russia’s greatest love machine” since it’s in that song and it was running joke in the class, and I actually got partial credit for it hehe

    1. I think we might be thinking of different musicals because I do not remember that lyric in the movie. I’m talking about the 20th Century Fox one. LOL
