I am going to establish now that I absolutely loath calling the things I want to accomplish in the new year “resolutions”. The word itself makes me not want to accomplish them for some reason. So for 2017, I made the decision to set goals. Three simple little goals for my 2017 that all play an integral role in making each other happen.
Goal 1: To Walk More
The United States Surgeon General has established that walking at least 10,000 steps in a day is good for your heart as well as your health in general. Walking helps you lose weight and tone the muscles in your legs.
I got a Fit-bit a year ago this past November so that I could track my steps as well as my sleeping patterns. I full on admit I get really excited when my Charge HR goes off on my wrist saying I made 10,000 steps. Most days I usually get really close and then there are days where I barely make it to 2,000. Which is why I have made my first goal of this new year the simple idea of walking more.
Now granted I took the first two days of the new year off as I had been out until the early hours of the first and pretty much spent the first and second of January lounging with wonderful company, but I started stepping my game up today and worked my butt off to get as close to my 10,000 steps as I could. Plus I figured with my lack of ability to keep to a workout routine, making it my goal to hit 10,000 steps a day with walking would be a step in the right direction of forming a habit.
Goal 2: Being Happier In My Own Skin
No, I am not by any means calling myself fat. However, I am not happy with certain parts of my body. This is why goal number one for the 2017 year is walking more. But there is part of me that just is not happy with more than just the physical. There are emotional issues too. We all have them. My second goal is to simple be happier being me. To celebrate being my odd eclectic self as much as I possibly can. Whether it is taking time to just sit and read a book series I enjoy or taking time to write up a blog post about something I enjoy, I am going to make this year about being happy in my own skin as well as making time for me.
Goal 3: Fill my year with as many adventures as possible
I got to go on a few adventures this past year with one of my sorority sisters. But this year, I want to have as many as I can. Whether it be a road trip to go hiking somewhere or go canoeing, I just want to fill as much of my free time having fun with the people I care about.. The ones I have let into my life because they actually care. I keep my circle small because I trust very few people not to hurt me, but I plan on living it up with my small circle as much as possible.
So, what are your goals for 2017? I suggest starting with three simple goals like I did this year and have them play off of one another. That way you are constantly encouraged to keep up with them. Life is too short not to do what you want, so make sure your goals make your year amazing.
